NFL and Olympian Athletes to Run in Darling Dash

The As One Foundation, together with Devard Darling, has announced some of the dignitaries that will be attending this year’s Darling Dash 5K & 1K fundraiser. Held at the Sweetwater Country Club in Sugar Land, Texas, this year’s run will include Heisman Trophy winner & former NY Knick Charlie Ward, original Houston Texan Chester Pitts, ’09 1st round draft pick wide receiver for the Oakland Raiders Darrius Heyward-Bay, and Houston’s own Olympic medal-winning Lopez Family.

The As One Foundation has also announed that former Houston Texan defensive end Travis Johnson will be joining Sugar Land’s Mayor Pro Tem, Jacquie Chaumette, as race Grand Marshals.

The newest press release also reminds all participants that discounted entry fees are still available to those that register before February 15, 2012.

As One Foundation Welcomes New Fundraising Intern

The As One Foundation is pleased to announce that Bridgett Humphrey has joined our staff as a Fundraising Intern for the coming year. We are excited to have her on board and look forward to Bridgett applying her fundraising experience to our upcoming activities.

Bridgett Humphrey

Since 2009, Bridgett Humphrey has served as the Registrar for Laurus Technical Institute at the Decatur campus. Prior to joining LTI, she worked extensively as an Operations Manager for a recruitment firm, Office Manager for a marketing firm, Sales Manager for a jewelry manufacturer, and apprenticed with a private investigator.

She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from the University of Florida and studied abroad at La Universidad Autónoma de Yucatán in Mexico. As an undergraduate student in 1998, Bridgett visualized and created the Unity Jam Scholarship Fund which occurs each fall to promote unity amongst Greek letter organizations while raising money for charities and scholarships at the University of Florida.

Bridgett is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Public Administration from Kennesaw State University and aims to graduate in Fall 2012.

Sucessful 2011 Darling Football Camp and Celebration

Bahamian NFL wide receiver, Devard Darling made his annual visit to Freeport for the Devard & Devaughn Darling Football Camp in spite of the failing economy. Darling was forced to scale back the normal full camp operation down to an abbreviated version in order to achieve the As One mission to help unlock and unleash the full potential of young people through athletics, education and spiritual enrichment this year. He conducted a one-day clinic from 8am – 1pm on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at the Freeport Rugby Club. Some seventy-six 11-17 year-old campers were provided breakfast, snacks, lunch, beverages from Coca-Cola and O.N.E. Coconut, Deuce Brand watches, football instruction, and more without charge.

Later, on Saturday, July 16th, Darling traveled to Nassau to conduct the first ever Darling Family Day, which included a flag-football tournament, a steak-out fundraiser, and a kids area with face-painting, balloon animals and a jumpy castle. It was fun for the whole family. Although the rain came, the sun eventually appeared and the Heiniken Spartans Flag Football Team of the Bahamas Flag Football League prevailed in the double-elimination tournament. Team members were presented with custom medals by Darling. Some 300 steak and chicken meals were sold to help defray the cost of the football camp – which is always offered free to the campers – but is a significant cost to pull off. The party boat cruise was cancelled due to weather.

Darling Family Days 2011 in Nassau

Where: Nassau, Bahamas

The As One Foundation will be in Nassau to conduct “Darling Family Day,” a one-day FUNdraiser with activities for the whole family.

The day begins with a Flag Football Tournament, 10am-4pm, $250 per team, open to all teams that register onsite. Download the team registration form early, or fill one out before play begins. Get the Team Registration

The day continues with a Family Steak-Out that includes a jumpy castle and face-painting for kids. From 12noon-4pm, barbeque lunches are available for $10 per plate.

The evening rocks on with Cruisin’ for the Cause, a party boat cruise departing at 9pm from Potters Cay Dock in Nassau. Tickets are $15 per person.
