Internship Summary
Remotely and/or in As One’s Houston, Texas; Metro Atlanta and Nassau & Freeport Bahamas offices, the fundraising/event planning intern may:

• Maintain and update AS ONE’s fundraising database. grants records, including schedules for deliverables and application renewals.
• Research and document prospective funding sources including foundations, potential sponsors, grants and other potential donors of cash, materials, and/or services.
• Assist with fundraising and publicity campaigns: solicitations, sponsor relations, press releases, public service announcements, follow-up calls, preparation of solicitation and press packets, etc.
• Assist with coordination, record-keeping, and promotion of As One Fundraising events.
• Assist with coordination of sponsor relations: ensure sponsors receive timely notice and provide their event-related ads, logos, guest lists, etc., in time to gain all benefits due.
• Design posters, flyers, invitations, thank you cards, etc.
• Track and compile fundraising and/or media statistics
• Track and organize auction donations, and prepare bid-sheets, auction materials, etc.
• Write for the AS ONE VOICE newsletter and other relevant publications.
• Attend staff meetings.
• Support Executive Director as needed.

Qualifications

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are a must.
• Experience working with or as part of large volunteer communities is a major plus.
• Comfort with a wide variety of communications tools is a must: for example, mailing lists, Constant Contact, SimplyCast, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Interest in As One and its mission.
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Web applications, experience with design software a plus).
• Must be able to work well independently, with limited supervision in a transparent and collaborative environment.
• Comfort working with people of diverse demographics and cultural characteristics.

This is an unpaid internship. School credit may be available.

The As One Foundation is currently seeking a student or recent graduate for a communications internship beginning immediately with potential to extend though the academic year. The communications intern will be expected to provide a minimum of 10 hours/week to support the As One Foundation’s public relations and communications strategy.

Interns at the As One Foundation will be exposed to an exceptionally dynamic, mission-oriented, independent environment, working primarily via telecommunication. The Foundation has an international reach and mission to help young people unlock & unleash their full potential through athletics, education and spiritual enrichment.

Interns will be immersed in an international media relations, issues management and internal communications environment.Interns will gain unique skills in social media, massive publicly collaborated web projects, research, and writing for global audiences. Ingenuity is encouraged.

Internship Summary

Remotely and/or in As One’s Houston, Texas; Metro Atlanta and Nassau & Freeport Bahamas offices, the communicationsintern may:

• Track and analyze international As One media exposure, including development of aweb/print clips archive.
• Assist in the development of systems to manage incoming data, including user stories, supporting quotes, and best practices.
• Update and improve the As One stakeholders database.
• Research prospective media or speaking opportunities.
• Support the Foundation or volunteer at public events.
• Review and direct incoming media and public requests to the appropriate parties.
• Respond to public inquiries as required.
• Create draft press releases, community announcements, blog posts.
• Support Executive Director as needed.

Qualifications

• Current or newly graduated student at a college or university.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills are a must.
• Experience working with or as part of large volunteer communities is a major plus.
• Comfort with a wide variety of communications tools is a must: for example, mailinglists, Constant Contact, SimplyCast, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
• Interest in As One and its mission.

• Familiarity with AP Style, basic knowledge of marketing and design is a plus.

The Devard & Devaughn Darling High School Senior Award is being offered to seniors that demonstrate strong community service, academic excellence, and a desire to continue their education at the collegiate level. Ten students preparing to enter college in the Fall of 2011 will be selected to receive $1000.00 to be used for educational expenses – housing, tuition, books, or required fees.

The mission of the As One Foundation is to encourage personal growth and development in young people – helping them to unlock and unleash their full potential througn through education, spirituality, and sports. Therefore the scholarship awards are based on the complete person, not just academic achievement. Students, who have experienced improvement in their grades, are socially conscience, and display leadership qualities are strong candidates for the Devard & Devaughn Darling High School Senior Award.

The As One Foundation was founded by NFL wide receiver Devard Darling in memory of his twin brother Devaughn Darling who tragically died during pre-season conditioning at Florida State University. Both athletes developed their football skills in the Fort Bend School District, attending school there until they graduated and continued their education at the collegiate level.
